Knights award seminarian scholarship
CHULA VISTA — The San Diego Diocese Chapter Knights of Columbus has announced an annual $500 scholarship to help defray the costs of studying for the priesthood at a Catholic seminary.
Named in honor of retired Father John Grace, O.S.A., the scholarship will be awarded to a first-year seminarian, who will receive $500 for each of his four years of theology studies.
The 2024-2025 scholarship will be presented to Michael Sibal during the Knights’ Priest and Religious Appreciation Dinner on Friday, Oct. 11, at St. Pius X Parish in Chula Vista.
Sibal, 34, was born in Alameda and grew up in San Diego. He is a member of St. Michael’s Parish in Paradise Hills. For the last three years, he has studied Philosophy with the Marian Fathers at Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio. He was recently accepted as a seminarian for the Diocese of San Diego.
Beginning Experience weekend coming in October
OCEANSIDE — Beginning Experience of San Diego will be hosting a healing weekend for those grieving the loss of a marriage.
It will be held Oct. 11 to 13 at Prince of Peace Abbey in Oceanside.
Separated, divorced and widowed men and women are welcome to come and meet others who have experienced a similar loss.

Women invited to find after-abortion healing
SAN DIEGO — Rachel’s Hope is offering an after-abortion healing retreat for Catholic (or Catholic-friendly) women.
It will take place from Friday, Oct. 11, to Sunday, Oct. 13, at the diocesan Pastoral Center. The retreat includes a closing Mass. Confidentiality will be maintained. Group size is limited.
The cost to attend is $60. Partial scholarships are available; housing is available if needed.

Mass to mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month
SAN DIEGO — In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which is observed every October, the diocesan Office for Family Life and Spirituality is inviting local Catholics to the annual Diocesan Domestic Violence Awareness Mass.
It will be celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop Michael Pham at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, at Ascension Parish.
The use of violence against another human being, especially within the domestic Church, is a sin and a crime, as the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has expressed in its letter, “When I Ask for Help: A Pastoral Response to Domestic Violence Against Women.”

Special Mass to be held for healthcare professionals
SAN DIEGO — The annual Healthcare Professionals Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 20, at St. Mary Magdalene Parish.
The liturgy, which will be celebrated this year by Auxiliary Bishop Ramon Bejarano, acknowledges those who serve in the healthcare profession, including physicians, nurses, mental health caregivers, and their office staff.
The Healthcare Professionals Mass is known by some as the “White Mass” because of the white lab coats traditionally worn by many healthcare professionals. It is often celebrated in October, which is when the feast of St. Luke the Evangelist, patron saint of physicians, also takes place.
Healthcare professionals are welcome to wear their lab coats or uniforms during Mass.
A complimentary lunch will follow in the parish hall.

‘Love Our Priests’ to gather on Oct. 26
SAN DIEGO — Father Clement T. Iorliam will be the special guest when the “Love Our Priests” Prayer Group gathers on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Ascension Parish in Tierrasanta.
There will be a Mass at 10 a.m., followed by a potluck luncheon.
Father Iorliam, who serves as a hospital chaplain and is in residence at Mary Star of the Sea Parish in La Jolla, will share his vocation story with the group.

SAN DIEGO — The Whispering Winds Women’s Auxiliary will hold its fall brunch on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Mission San Diego de Alcala.

Holiday craft fair returning to OLG
EL CAJON — The Our Lady of Grace Parish Catholic Women’s Club will hold its annual holiday craft fair and bake sale on Saturday, Nov. 2.
It will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parish center and adjacent patio area.
There will be over 70 local crafters selling fashion apparel, holiday and home decor and other handmade items for the holidays.

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego chapter of Young Catholic Professionals (YCP) hosts regular events for young Catholics in their 20s and 30s.
Among the organization’s recurring events is its Executive Speaker Series, where a Catholic speaker is invited to reflect on his or her faith and career. There is no cost for admission, and attendees can enjoy free beer, wine and appetizers, as well as time for networking.

Father Joe’s clients have reason to smile
SAN DIEGO — Father Joe’s Villages, San Diego’s largest homeless services providers, received $100,000 to enhance available services at its onsite dental clinic, which provides services like teeth cleanings, fillings, crowns, root canals, extractions and dentures to clients of all ages.
This funding, made possible through the Delta Dental Community Foundation’s Access to Care Grants Program, is dedicated to securing and increasing access to quality, affordable dental care. The Community Care Foundation has contributed more than $150 million to local community partners, like Father Joe’s Villages, since 2011.
Father Joe’s Villages’ dental clinic, based in the organization’s on-campus Villages Health Center, provides services to thousands of clients each year. With these funds, the organization will be able to expand services to clients, including providing translation services and responding to the needs of aging clients, including denture care.
“Every smile tells a story, and the story we hope each of our clients can soon tell is one of resilience and hope,” said Dr. Megan Partch, chief health officer at Father Joe’s Villages. “We appreciate the Delta Dental Community Foundation’s commitment to increasing access for our most vulnerable neighbors, one smile at a time.”
