SACRAMENTO — Staff and faithful from Catholic dioceses across California participated in meetings at the state capital during the annual Lobby Day.

They included John Prust, director of the Office for Family Life and Spirituality, and Maria Valencia, associate director of the Office for Life, Peace and Justice, from the Diocese of San Diego.

On June 13, they visited legislators, advocating for life, human dignity and family values. They voiced their support and opposition to a variety of proposed bills. They  supported AB 359, which addresses existing barriers faced by school districts and community colleges in establishing partnerships, thereby creating more opportunities for students to participate in dual enrollment programs; SB 1414, which would make it a felony to buy a child for sex in California; and SB 1001, which would clarify that a person with an intellectual disability who was not diagnosed as a minor is ineligible for the death penalty.

More information about upcoming legislation is available from the California Catholic Conference at https://cacatholic.org/upcoming-bills/
