EL CENTRO – A Community Rosary is coming to the Imperial Valley for all Christian faithful interested in praying together.
The event will be held on the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary on Oct. 7, at the soccer field of St. Mary’s School, behind the St. Mary Catholic Church Parish Center, located at 795 S. LaBrucherie in El Centro from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Former El Centro Police Department Chief and long-time St. Mary Church parishioner Eddie Madueño is coordinating the outdoor event with support from El Centro Catholic and St. John Paul II Catholic radio. The event will feature live music minister and JP2 Radio “Sacred Heart Narratives” host José Martínez.
The event will include a short presentation on the rosary before the recitation of the rosary in English and Spanish. Madueño said all Catholic and Christian faithful are invited to attend from Imperial and all surrounding counties, including San Diego, Yuma, Riverside, and Mexicali.
“It’s really just kind of a grassroots thing,” Madueño said. “Everyone is welcomed. Even if they don’t know how to pray the rosary but they just want to experience it and follow along.”
“There’s no agenda, it’s just the community getting together to pray the rosary for their own petition,” he said.
Madueño also said he hopes to expand and have Community Rosaries in other parts of the Imperial Valley in the future.
“I think everyone will walk away just feeling kind of blessed during the month of the rosary.”
