The student body at St. Gregory the Great Catholic School currently includes a few award-winning scientists and an award-winning songwriter. Seven of the school’s seventh-graders were invited to the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair in Balboa Park, where their science projects were judged by scientists and professionals in their category’s field. In addition, Shane Martin and Lilli Lawrenz both placed first in their categories. Four of the students took second place with their projects, including Jack Grissom, Sinclair McComic, Emily Salazar and Claire Scelfo. Eva Lawson placed fourth. The Missionary Childhood Association’s annual children’s song-writing contest awarded first place to St. Gregory the Great sixth-grader John Perry Wishchuk. He performed his original composition at the MCA Mass celebrated March 19 at Our Mother of Confidence Church. A winner at the diocesan level, the song will now go on to compete at the national level.
