SAN DIEGO — More than 120 vulnerable families received unwrapped toys, books, baby necessities, festive winter clothing and other gifts at Birthline of San Diego’s annual Holiday Event.
On Dec. 15 and 16, Birthline staff and more than 30 volunteers dressed as “elves” helped transform the courtyard outside the nonprofit’s Clairemont office into a winter wonderland.
Toys for Tots, the San Diego Food Bank, and the Deputy Sheriffs’ Association of San Diego County were among the many organizations that helped make the event possible.
Several local churches, including Our Mother of Confidence in University City, Our Lady of Refuge in Pacific Beach, and St. Therese of Carmel contributed gifts through their Christmas giving trees. Students from St. James Academy in Solana Beach prepared special holiday gift bags containing cozy blankets, warm socks, lotion and other personal items for Birthline’s clients.
One grateful mother, Iris, said, “I feel so blessed, especially today. I thought this would be a Christmas without gifts and, although I know that is not the most important thing, what is important is knowing there are people who want to help others and who want everyone to experience happiness.”
Birthline is a local nonprofit focused on supporting pregnant women and families with young children.
